Musings

It’s almost here. The end of 2015 is almost upon us. 2016 is coming whether we are ready or not.

2015 has been a pretty good year for me. Good things happened in my life this year. I gave up my full time job as custodian at the elementary school where both my boys had attended.  Adam had moved on to high school, and the time was right. It was one of the best decisions I made all year. I’m cleaning houses part time now, and I love being in charge, making my own schedule. Good stuff!

We adopted Zeke this summer! What a great decision! We have a small house, and I was initially worried about having a big dog in the house. But, it has been a pretty smooth transition. Zeke and Coco get along great, I was worried about that too. I can’t imagine life without Zeke in it now. He’s such a good boy, and we are all in love with him!

I started using Young Living essential oils. I was a huge skeptic at the beginning. I was sure the oils would do nothing for me, but I wanted to try them. I bought my starter kit, and was hooked. The oils have changed my life! I get support for so many body systems with my oils, it’s amazing! When I got my kit, I had no intention of ever selling the oils. I am not a salesperson, and didn’t really want any part of that. But, the funny thing about the oils, once you start using them, you want to share with people what they do for you. And so, naturally, I started casually talking about them, and posting about them on Facebook. Eventually, someone bought a kit from me, and my Young Living business was born. I will never be without my oils again.

I started running in August. I always thought I didn’t have the stamina to run. But, with Christopher encouraging me, I downloaded the C2K app onto my phone and dove in. I love the program because it eases you into running by combining walking/running intervals. I finished the program and was super proud of myself.  I continued to run, and still do. I ran my first 5K in November. Adam ran with me, which I loved! What an accomplishment! It felt amazing!

We surprised Adam with his first car this year. He won’t have a license until May, but he’s been driving it around town with us. It was so much fun to watch his reaction to that car in the driveway!

My first baby left the nest this year. I will admit it was hard for me to see him go. But, ultimately, as parents, our job is to prepare them to go out into the world. I think we have done a pretty good job. I am so proud of him, he’s made a nice home for himself and Sarah. They are so happy there, and, in turn, that makes me happy.

Unfortunately, the year was not all fun. I lost my dad this year. He passed away at the end of January. It was, truly, the hardest thing I’ve ever had to go through. He was the most amazing dad and grandpa! It still hurts, and I still miss him like crazy, and always will. It took me a very long time to realize that his death was actually a blessing. He is in a much better place now, and for that, I will be forever grateful. He is buried in a cemetery that is minutes from my house, so I visit frequently. It’s so hard to lose someone you love.

I’m looking forward to 2016. I hope to continue my running. I would also like to stay healthy and be proactive with health matters. I think I need to overhaul my diet, so maybe baby steps in that direction. I do love my sweets, lol. I hope to continue to build my Young Living business. I hope for great things for both of my boys. They continue to amaze me year after year. I hope for good health for my husband. And I hope that we will all be happy and healthy in the new year.

Happy New Year!

Wonderful!

We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas celebration! We spent time with family, which is my favorite part of the holidays. We have another celebration tonight, again with family. We have enjoyed lots of laughs, good food and, of course, gifts. It’s a wonderful time of year.

I am also enjoying the down time. I am up early every day with the dogs, but I am learning to enjoy that time. The house is pretty quiet and  I enjoy having the Christmas tree lit while enjoying coffee.

I am starting to look ahead to the new year. I want to make it great!

Christmas Lights

Last night we went down to the Toledo Zoo to see the Christmas lights. Every year the zoo is lit up with beautiful lights. It has become a tradition, something we enjoy doing every Christmas season.

It had been a rainy day, and I wasn’t so sure about keeping with our plan to go, but this was the only day Tim could go. So, we started with dinner out, and then headed south. It rained all the way there. But when we got to the zoo, the rain had stopped. It was not super cold out, but it was quite breezy. Turns out, it was the perfect night to go. No rain, not freezing cold, and a very small crowd.

We had a good time. I love the lights and the festive atmosphere. I’m already looking forward to next year, lol.

Feels like spring!

It kind of feels like spring outside today. The temp is in the low 50’s and they are saying we will be in the low 60’s over the weekend. Christmas is just two weeks away, but it certainly doesn’t feel like Christmas weather in Michigan. I’m not complaining, I will enjoy these temps as long as they stick around. But, this is Michigan, and I’m sure they won’t last! And, I wouldn’t mind a little snow so we can have a white Christmas.

How is the weather in your neck of the woods?

Still going!

I’m still running, in case you were wondering. I try to get three runs in every week. I’ve been pretty consistent. The weather has been pretty good. The cold, when we’ve had it, doesn’t stop me. What does stop me is pouring down rain and gusty winds. I don’t feel the need to run in either of those conditions. The little bit of snow we’ve had so far came on a weekend, and I don’t usually run on the weekends. When the weather prevents me from getting a run in, I make sure to get some miles in on my exercise bike. I’m determined to stay fit and healthy!

Now, to work on my eating habits, lol.  It’s certainly harder to try to eat healthy this time of year. There are too many sweet treats here and everywhere we go. Good thing I am keeping up with the exercise.

Life is good!

Who needs sleep anyway?

Having dogs is sometimes like having little kids again! Zeke and Coco are used to being up early during the week.  I’m sure they have no clue that the weekend is time when we normally do not have to get up at the crack of dawn. But, right on cue, they start whining and getting antsy to make the first trip outside when it’s still dark outside. I’ve been up since 6:00 am with them this morning. But, it’s ok. I love them to pieces, and, honestly, I kind of enjoy the peace and quiet that a weekend morning brings. I lit the Christmas tree and poured a cup of coffee. I claimed my favorite spot on the couch and settled in. It was kind of nice. Coco settled in front of the heat vent, and, don’t tell anyone because they are not usually allowed to, but I let Zeke curl up next to me on the couch!

Enjoy your weekend!

Not all of them are expensive!

I think there is a common misconception that all Young Living oils are expensive. While it’s true that some are, not all of them are. The Seed to Seal process that Young Living uses ensures that you are getting pure, therapeutic grade oils. So, of course, for the real deal, you are going to pay a little more. I’d rather pay more and know the oils I’m using are pure. Do your research! Check out the Young Living website, YoungLiving.com.
