Have You Read This One?

Hey friends!

I’ve been doing a whole lot of reading this summer. But, it’s been a bit since I’ve shared a review with you here. So, here we go.

I recently finished Summer of ’69 by Elin Hilderbrand. You may know that she is one of my favorite authors. I stumbled across her books in a used book store several years ago, and fell in love! I worked hard to find more, and I think maybe I have read them all. Maybe, I’m not sure!

Summer of ’69 was released last month and I love it, no surprise. I absolutely love that her books take place on Nantucket! Because of my love for her writing, I want to visit Nantucket and see all the places mentioned in her books. It’s on my bucket list. I have pictures in my head, from reading her books, of what the island looks like. I look forward to seeing it in person someday!

As the title suggests, this story takes place during the summer of 1969. Nantucket and Martha’s Vineyard are prominent backdrops for this book. Elin Hildebrand is awesome at setting the scene to give you a clear picture in your head of where things are happening.

There are so many twists and turns with the Levin family during this summer,  I didn’t want to stop reading. It’s a different summer for them than what they are used to. (Imagine spending your summers on Nantucket! That would be awesome!)  From Blair, about to give birth; to Kirby, working on Martha’s Vineyard; to Tiger in Vietnam; to Jessie on Nantucket, each one is dealing with personal issues and secrets that grab you and make you feel like you are right there with them.

Real events from the summer of 1969 are woven into this story. It’s like a little history lesson. The story of Ted Kennedy and Chappaquiddick, the historic moon landing, civil rights protests, and Vietnam are brought to life as part of this book. I love that!

If you are looking for a good read this summer, definitely check out Summer of ’69 by Elin Hilderbrand!
